Dina Proto is a captivating, intelligent speaker who effectively reaches diverse audiences about the importance of providing patient-centered, affirming care to LGBTQ+ populations. She previously spoke as a keynote speaker at the University of Central Florida’s Gender Affirming Healthcare Forum, an event that aims to teach clinicians and other professionals about gender diversity and inclusion in health care settings. Thanks to Dina, the forum was one of the best-attended events that UCF Student Health Services has ever organized! I have seen first-hand how Dina educates, empowers, and mobilizes attendees to take critical steps in serving transgender patients in meaningful ways suited to their unique needs and biographies. While sharing her own health care journey as an experienced provider, author, and cancer survivor, Dina successfully helped the audience understand why gender affirming care practice is needed in today’s health care facilities and how we can provide such care to gender diverse patient populations. I received numerous emails from medical students and faculty after the event about how Dina’s keynote left a lasting impression on their attitudes towards gender affirming care and made them energized to put these lessons into action.
